HERITAGE WINE COLLECTION
BLANDY'S SERCIAL 1965
For every wine we launch within this Collection, we will lift the lid on life in Madeira during the year of that harvest, and dive deep into the life of the member of the Blandy family leading the company at that time. John Reeder Blandy, who led the company in 1965, is the second family member to be associated with the Heritage Wine Collection.
Sercial 1965, one of the family’s most iconic wines, is the second chapter in this prestigious series, with only 867 bottles being released, totalling 650 litres. With an eye on future generations, Blandy’s reaffirms its commitment to preserving this unique legacy, with the past, present, and future rooted in the know-how and patience that have always characterized the company since 1811. This 2025 release marks another historic milestone for Blandy’s, with a wine that has undergone 60 years of ageing in casks.
TASTING NOTES
Amber-gold with an old gold-greenish nuance, very exuberant and characteristic.
Volatile, and resinous, with notes of very old brandies and citrus candied fruit. Some notes are reminiscent of yellow fruit chutney.
On the palate, it is very fresh, dry, and concentrated, with invigorating acidity. Very intense, it leaves an exuberant finish with spice and resinous exotic wood notes, such as cedar and cigar box.

BLANDY'S BUAL 1920
The beginning of the 20th century was a time of great global uncertainty. Our records show that total wine exports fall from around 3.3 million litres annually, between 1910 and 1916, to below 1.3 million litres, in 1917 and 1918. Both the Great War and the Russian Revolution had a huge impact on Madeira wine production and sales, followed shortly after by prohibition in the United States.
The 1920 Bual is one of the family’s most iconic wines and to think this wine was crafted in the face of so many adversities is a real testament to the men and women working on the island at the time.
Over the years, different bottlings of the 1920 were released onto the market and all were unique in their own right – each separate bottling style naturally evolved by heat, humidity, cask size and location within our Wine Lodge in Funchal.
This 2020 release sets another landmark for Blandy’s as being a wine that has aged for 100 years in both American oak casks and, as from the 1st of March 2017, in glass demi-johns. Only 1,199 individually numbered bottles will be released of this centennial wine.
