When the United States declared independence in 1776, they raised a glass of Madeira wine as a symbol of freedom, character, and distinction, chosen by George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin. In the hands of the Founding Fathers, Madeira was the silent witness to the birth of a great nation.

Today, Blandy’s pays tribute to that historic moment with a rare 1976 vintage edition: the remarkable Blandy’s Madeira Terrantez 1976 – launched to celebrate 250 years of a timeless bond with an enduring toast to independence.

Tasting Notes

Colour

Clear, bright, coppery brown with golden nuances and greenish highlights.

Aroma

On the nose, it’s highly characteristic and complex, revealing an austere bouquet intensely concentrated in dried fruits, spices, and exotic woods, with balsamic and camphor notes, hints of cedarwood (cigar box) and aged brandy.

Mouth

On the palate, the first impression is sweet, but it soon becomes powerful and warm. It’s exuberant and intense, showing great depth and leaving a very long, fresh, slightly saline finish, with notes of dried fruits and exotic spices such as saffron and curry.
