CELLARAGE & SERVING

We recommend that this wine be stored in a cool and dry place, at a constant temperature (ideally up to 16ºC), away from light and in a vertical position. Once bottled, and after a few years of ageing in bottle, the wines can create a natural deposit, so we recommend their decanting. Having been bottled after stabilization, we recommend keeping it at a temperature below 16ºC, for a better tasting.

VINTAGE BUAL 1966

AGEING

Blandy’s Bual 1966 was aged for 49 years in seasoned American oak casks and as with all the family’s vintages, this wine started its ageing process in the warm high attic floors of the lodge in the centre of Funchal. Over the 49 years, the wine passed down from the warmer top floor of the Blandy’s Wine Lodges, the “Sotão de Amendoa” where it spent the first 10 years, to the second floor for 20 years and finally to the cooler first for the remaining 19 years.

PRESS COMMENTS

Mid-amber/mahogany; rich, lifted, with a slightly offputting whiff of cream cheese on the nose; dried figs and apricots, with good richness and texture, offset by gentle acidity. Very approachable and easy to drink.
Richard Mayson, Fine Wine, February 2008

PRESS COMMENTS

Lacking some complexity and sweetness on the nose. Burnt toffee and singed leather. The palate is very spicy and alcoholic, rather untamed with notes of orange zest and quince on the finish. Some volatility beginning to show through. Drink now.
